Kerrigan’s Story

We’re writing this with full hearts and deep gratitude for what Horses with Hearts has meant to our daughter, Kerrigan.

As a teenager living with Cystic Fibrosis, Kerrigan faces challenges every single day—many of them invisible to the outside world. But from the moment she began riding at Horses with Hearts, something began to shift. Her body grew stronger. Her spirit brighter. Her confidence bolder.

Riding has been more than therapeutic—it’s been transformative. The physical activity, the engaging exercises, even the thrill of trotting—all of it has played a role in helping strengthen her muscles and support her lung function. For someone with a chronic respiratory condition, those gains are life-changing.

But perhaps what’s most beautiful is the bond she’s formed with her horse. Living with a chronic illness can feel isolating at times. There are hard days—moments when it’s easy to feel weighed down. But that connection between Kerrigan and her horse has given her something steady to hold onto. It’s more than just emotional support—it’s comfort, strength, and pure joy wrapped into one powerful friendship.

Horses with Hearts has become a vital part of Kerrigan’s physical, emotional, and social well-being. It’s a place where she feels seen, supported, and strong.

To the entire team—thank you. Thank you for pouring your hearts into this work. Thank you for lifting up not just Kerrigan, but so many children and adults in our community. What you do is nothing short of miraculous.

— With love and gratitude,
Maryrose (Kerrigan’s Mom)
